Gloria Coletti’s quarter-century career with the Department of Sanitation was spent at Fresh Kills, where she was a principal administrative associate and then executive assistant to the director of the landfill. Following the 9/11 attacks, Mrs. Coletti continued her work as executive assistant while also acting as a liaison between the Department and members of the public who sought answers about the investigation and recovery work taking place at Fresh Kills. Mrs. Coletti was also instrumental in helping the Department of Sanitation adopt the USS Austin, the last naval ship launched from the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Mrs. Coletti shares reflections about her career with DSNY, her personal experiences in lower Manhattan on September 11, 2001, her unique perspectives on the history of Fresh Kills, and her life outside of the Department.
